Food + Wine Kickoff

If you didn’t make the kick-off party for the Charleston Food + Wine festival yesterday afternoon, then you missed out on a grand time, perfect weather (considering the rain lately), and some really fine, well, food and wine.  The best dish of the night by far was a “Shrimp BLT” concoction put out by Craig […]

Gas Up at Fuel’s Block Party This Saturday

This Saturday, August 23, Fuel is throwing a back-to-school block party extravaganza from 3-9 p.m. It may not actually be on Cannon Street, but the Caribbean cantina is gating off their entire property — parking lot, backyard, patio — to have a day-long soiree with music, food, and some honkey-tonk games like a corn hole […]

I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Seersucker Ice Cream

Here’s a universal truth for you: all ice cream tastes good.
Not a revelation, but a fact that makes judging ice cream flavors pretty difficult. Chef Marc Collins and Pastry Chef Scott Lovorn of Circa 1886 amused themselves this summer with an ice cream contest, inviting people to submit a recipe that represented Charleston. I was […]

CP Foodie Checks Out the Lettered Olive on IOP

The following was written by intern Alison Sher after a visit to a new restaurant at Wild Dunes:
There is rarely a time when journalists from all the papers in Charleston get to sit down at a table and talk nice with each other over five courses of food. Are there rivalries between publications?
I mean we […]

CP Foodie Intern does the Palette & Palate Stroll

I’m an art fan. I love contemporary painting, abstract impressionism, sculpture using different mediums, but I’m not gonna lie. As far as I’m concerned, this event might as well have been called the Palate and Palate and Palate Race Toward Diabetes. When it came down to having platters of endless hors’ doeuvres made by Charleston’s […]

The Inevitable Rise of Pig Uterus

I was out yesterday in North Chuck, hauling a load of old gutters from my home renovation project to a blistering hot scrap metal yard on Rivers Avenue, and decided to dive into La Nortena, which despite its relocation, schmancy  facelift, and watered down menu, still serves some damn good tacos alongside the best Mexican […]

Pho on Folly

Saw a sign yesterday on Folly Road that pulled me in immediately “Pho — Sushi — Chinese Food.” Thinking I could save some time by not cooking dinner before a 7 p.m. basketball game, we stopped in the shopping center where Mondo’s and DB’s are located and ordered some chicken noodle soup (pho), rice […]

Charleston Food + Wine Plans?

Have you bought tickets to any Charleston F+W fest events yet? The hot tickets again this year are the Salute to Chefs opening night party, the Bubbles & Sweets party, and the Dine Arounds (most of which are sold out). I bought tickets to FIG’s Dine Around this year where Suzanne Goin will be […]

J Bistro Closes

If you made reservations for Valentine’s Day at J. Bistro, you might want to rethink your plans. Tamir Lerman, who purchased the restaurant from James Burns a couple years ago, has closed the restaurant. The space is currently undergoing renovations and will be reopening in a few months under a new concept.

Basil to Conquer Mt P

According to a small item in today’s business section, Basil — Charleston’s favorite Thai restaurant — has signed a lease with the Beach Company at the Shoppes at Seaside Farms off of the Isle of Palms connector.
That’s exciting news. We’ve got a call into Basil brothers Henry and Chai Eang to get details on their […]
